14 January Promising results January 14, 2021 By Pam Fraser Sport North Canterbury BMX riders were competing in the Mainland North Region Championships, held across the weekend at the Christchurch City BMX track, and at home at the North Canterbury BMX track in Rangiora. They had some promising results leading into what will be a very big weekend at the North Canterbury club this weekend, as they host the South Island Championships. Making the podium were Leo Gardner 8boys 3rd, Riley Smart 11boys 1st, Tahlia Hansen 17-24 Elite female 1st, Matt Stewart 35-39 men’s Cruiser 3rd, Nigel Coughlan 45-49 men’s Cruiser, John Hansen 50-54 men’s Cruiser 3rd, and Liam Goodwin men’s Elite Cruiser 2nd. This weekend, the South Island Championship will attract over 200 riders from across New Zealand, and promises to be an event showcasing skill and speed on two wheels, here in our North Canterbury backyard!
