Pegasus parkrun #226 run report – A new age category record!

The second Pegasus parkrun of 2021 & the first of the New Year to take place on the day formerly known as Saturday!

Two very strong elements of parkrun today, one was missing and the other was in evidence:

1. Somebody forgot to organise a mobile coffee vendor‼️‼️ With our local The Flat White having a well earned break, we all had to look elsewhere for the regulatory caffeine fix.
2. Making up for that in spectacular fashion was the very evident parkrun element of Family.

It was great to see so many families out there today, the photos I’ve selected are mainly child/adult shots, but we also had many other family forms out there today and ultimately that’s what it’s all about - we are all a part of something much bigger, collectively known as The parkrun Family.

OK enough philosophical babbling from this PegaScribe onto the things that matter. There were 88 parkrunners on course today, walking, jogging and running around Pegasus at 8:00 in the morning! We saw First Time Ever parkrunners, First Time Visiting parkrunners, parkrunners Pushing Beyond & earning themselves a well deserved PB, there were Milestones achieved and Volunteer efforts to be applauded.

Completing their First Ever parkrun - welcome to the family - were: Graham, Tash, Jordan and Jero Galway as were Simon Bain, Tina Alberts and Mark Feary. Visitors heading around Pegasus for their first time were : Dawn Munro (Western Springs), Martin Faulkner (Western Springs), Emma Rebbeck (Queenstown), Genevieve Jack (Foster - although there’s a very impressive list of 19 parkrun locations that she’s been to in her 27 runs!), Margaret Blissett (Foster), Isaac and David Walters (Blenheim), Eleanor and Phil Jack (Foster 18 & 17 different locations). Phew, a bit of touristing amongst them all.

Trimming time from past Personal Bests were Daniel Wordsworth, Don Young, Israel Hansen, Dean Longhurst, Lainie Rossis, Robert Templer, Ella Stokes and Helen Thomas - Congratulations to all 8 of you.

Today while Tailwalking for us, Karyn Templer earned her RED shirt! Congratulations on completing your 50th parkrun Karyn!

Because our event is not a race, there is never a podium to stand on, if there was though today would see Nick Burrow (16:03), Alex Witt (18:36) and John Marshall (19:24) filling up the Mens, with Haven Drinnan (21:07), Angela Doig (21:45) and Kath Atkin (23:39) on the Womens.

The quickest Juniors today were Daniel Wordsworth (21:04), Haven Drinnan and Joseph Hansen (22:12).

A big achievement on the course today was the setting of a new course record for the VM45-49 age category. Congratulations to Nick Burrow who finished in a time of 00:16:03, with an age grading of 88.37%! Nick now holds the age category records at Pegasus parkrun for both the VM40-44 & the VM45-49 age categories!

In Age Graded Results, other top performers were Gary Devlin (79.10%) and Adrienne Smith (77.29%), also showing us +70% were John Marshall, Kath Atkin, Daniel Wordsworth, Haven Drinnan, Lynley Driver and Alex Witt.

Leading today’s team of on course Volunteers today was Simon Hancock, ably assisted by Ian Lennie, Kerry Jenkinson, Lynley Devon, Nick Drinnan, Karyn Templer, Trev White, Mark Reid and myself - assisting in “the back room” for today’s event were Trudy Diggs and Chris van der Leer.
