9 July North Canterbury Outclass The Students July 9, 2020 By Pam Fraser Sport The North Canterbury women’s basketball team totally outclassed the University of Canterbury side in the latest round of the Premier competition. The led from start to finish, amassing more than double the points of their opposition, in their 80-38 win. Esra McGoldrick top scored for the local girls, with 24 points. The men’s premier side also picked up a win in their competition albeit much closer, defeating Checkers 85-80. Nat Connell top scored with 16 points. In the u13 boys A grade, the North Canterbury u13 Lions had a win over celebration 108-43, but the Cheetahs, and Pumas lost their matches 41-52 to Wharenui Gators, and 72-78 to Pioneer Blue, respectively. In the U15A boys grade, both Kaiapoi High and Rangiora High were defeated. Kaiapoi went down 43-127 to Gators Red, and Rangiora were defeated by St Bede’s Red, 70-93. A better result for the RHS U17A boys, getting up over the Riccarton Gators 80-68. In the girls U15 grade, the North Canterbury White team took out the Selwyn Hawks 89-26, but the Maroon team lost to Gators 49-65. The North Canterbury U18 girls defeated St Andrews Juniors 68-50, and the Rangiora HIgh girls defeated Checkers 73-49.
