Kaiapoi Softball Club

March 7th and 8th, was the penultimate week of the Canterbury Premier Softball competition. A full round of competition was played across both days of the weekend, really testing the depth of the squads.

In the Premier Women’s competition, the Kaiapoi Queens came away with three wins, and a loss. They defeated the Halswell Hornets 10-3, Papanui 6-5, and Sydenham Kereru 9-2, but lost to the PCU Angels 1-3. This put them second on the league table, and through to the three match finals series next weekend, against the PCU Angels.

The Kaiapoi Kings didn’t fare so well in the Men’s Premier competition. They were defeated by the PCU Devils 2-0, Albion Anteaters 6-3, Papanui 11-0, and the Halswell Hornets 5-1. They have finished fourth on the league table, but will have the opportunity to improve to third, in playoff for third/fourth next weekend, against the Albion Anteaters.

The weekend also saw the u13 girls Kaiapoi Top Cats, and u11 boys Kaiapoi Nuggets, competing in the Little League Division Two Grand Prix, and Under 11 tournament. Both teams performed really well and made their respective finals.

Unfortunately the Top Cats were beaten by the PCU Little Chicks, and the Nuggets were also defeated in their final by the Papanui Lions. Jorja Simpson and Calum Sinclair were named team MVP’s.
