Hockey hits the turf

Senior hockey started over the weekend, with both North Canterbury Clubs, Rangiora, and Hinemoa Kaiapoi, in action.

The Rangiora Division one men’s and women’s teams both had the bye in this first round and will begin their campaigns this weekend.

The Division 2-3 women began their grading with a win for the D2 team 7-1 over Marist, and a loss for the D3 team 1-2 against Hornby. The Division 3 men defeated Harewood 3-2.

The Hinemoa Kaiapoi grass grade women, were home on the grass at Kaiapoi Park, in what began as a fairly evenly contested match.  However, they asserted their dominance as the match went on, and finished up with a 5-0 win over Southern.

In the Platinum grades, the Rangiora A men had a heavy defeat 1-13, whilst the B men won 4-1 against Hornby. The Rangiora A women had a 1-1 draw with Marist, and the B’s a 2-11 loss to HSOB/Burnside. Both Hinemoa Kaiapoi platinum women’s teams had losses to Harewood, with Miro defeated 0-2, and Tawa 2-4.

Midweek action also got underway this week. The Hinemoa Kaiapoi Kauri men accounting for Harewood 5-2. Also, in the Division two men’s grade, Rangiora lost to Southern 0-1. In Division Two women’s grade Hinemoa Kaiapoi Totara were defeated 0-8 by Hornby, and Rangiora Hurunui.
